Advancing the Conversation of Jesus

Jesus was amazingly aware of all of the people God sent his way. He knew them well and he also was aware of their behavior patterns. Jesus was always looking for receptivity and described it in a variety of soils. “Hear then the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road. The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away. And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.” Matthew 13:18-23
Jesus refers to the seed sown in three ways (Matthew 13; Luke 8): The seed is the “word of God.” The seed is the “message of the Kingdom.” The seed is the “sons of the Kingdom.” Jesus seems to view the seed sown in and through the sons of the Kingdom as the word of God and the message of God’s Kingdom. This is what his primary message was as he taught throughout the villages and synagogues.
Out of all of the eight parables recorded in Matthew 13 only one parable has an action step to it. There is one primary activity within the Kingdom Jesus came to establish. The primary activity of the Kingdom is the constant sowing of the seed of the Good News of the Kingdom. This seed has tremendous spiritual power within those who are followers of Jesus-to be productive-to be fruitful. It is able to produce amazing levels of fruit. To be fruitful is to enjoy the peace, joy, love and grace of Jesus
Please note: the primary activity is not trying to get people to go to heaven. It is not trying to convert people to join a certain religion. It is not trying to get people to join your religious organization. The primary activity is the sowing of seed-introducing the word of God, the Good News of the Kingdom, which is present and alive within and among the followers of Jesus. The primary activity is introducing people to the person of Jesus-without all the religious baggage.
Sowing seed is be actively involved in advancing the conversation of Jesus. It’s re-presenting the love of Jesus to those in need of healing and love. So, practice walking, talking, and being the love of Jesus with those God is sending to you. How can you practice this in some way today or this week?
