GOT A MINUTE?

Leadership development is greatly lacking. The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers.Faulty Mindset #1: THE CONSULTANT MENTALITY.Faulty Mindset #2: THE SHOW MENTALITY.Faulty Mindset #3: THE SEARCH FOR MEDIOCRITY.Faulty Mindset #4: THE MIS-DEFINED CHURCH.

The 5th faulty mindset that negatively affects leadership development in faith communities is: JESUS IS ON THE BENCH. According to the early followers of Jesus, Jesus is to be the Head of the church and the only Teacher. However, in many Churches Jesus has become only a brand name. He’s certainly not the leader nor the teacher; it’s difficult to imagine that Jesus would even be hired as the lead Pastor.

For decades there have been vigorous debates-sometimes ugly and sometimes deadly-about the nature of Jesus. Is Jesus God or Man? I’m quite familiar with these skirmishes, but in some ways I’ve come to realize both sides have missed the point of it all. To split Jesus up is to hijack his very unique nature-to diminish the miracle of the incarnation-God took on flesh in the form of Man.

There is something that overrides everything! When Jesus said, “Apart from me, you can do nothing”, did he mean it? The person and authority of Jesus is awesome as Paul taught the Colossians: He is theimage of theinvisible God, thefirstborn of all creation.Forby Him all things were created, bothin the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whetherthrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things have been created through Him and for Him.Heis before all things, and in Him all thingshold together. He is alsohead ofthe body, the church; and He isthe beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything…. For in Him all thefullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have beenmadecomplete, andHe is the headover allrule and authority. (Colossians 1 & 2)

Listen to this: In the beginning wasthe Word, and the Word waswith God, andthe Word was God.He was in the beginning with God.All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being…. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us. (John 1)

Jesus holds the entire world together! Don’t put Jesus on the bench. Jesus alone is the only one who can develop leaders. Put Jesus in the game and follow his lead.
