Advancing the Conversation of Jesus
GOT A MINUTE?
The 2nd thing only Jesus can do that no one else can do is the experience of joy.
Joy is different from happiness. Joy is deeper than that. Happiness depends upon the happenings that are going on right now. Joy is an inner quality of seeing things with a positive perspective. Joy is the ability to enjoy the scenery, when you are on a detour!
When Jesus was born, it was announced that he was to be the good news of great joy for all people (Luke 2). Then, at that special final gathering with his disciples Jesus says, “These things I have spoken to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.” (John 15)
Jesus was teaching them about their relationship with him, that it is as vital as a branch connected to the vine. As a follower remains connected to Jesus, he will experience the same joy Jesus possessed. Think of it! You can have Jesus’ joy in you in all its brimming fullness, spilling over into every area of your life and into the lives of others!
Jesus even challenged his followers by saying, “Until now you have asked for nothing in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full.” (John 16)And as Jesus prays he says, “But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have my joy made full in themselves.” (John 17)
Do you get the picture that Jesus is bent on his followers experiencing joy? Through Jesus, joy is available to anyone who wants it.
